President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated the newly established Hulhumalé Dialysis Centre, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to providing life-saving treatment for individuals with kidney disease. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Orange Hiya building, where the centre is located.
The event commenced with a video presentation highlighting the features of the new facility, followed by a tour of the premises led by healthcare officials. The centre is operated under the Malé City Group of Hospitals and is equipped with 30 dialysis beds, aiming to significantly reduce the burden on local patients who previously had to seek treatment abroad.
Speaking at the inauguration, President Muizzu underscored the administration’s firm commitment to enhancing healthcare services within the Maldives. “This is a significant step towards ensuring our citizens can access essential medical services at home, without the financial and emotional strain of travelling overseas,” he said.
The Hulhumalé Dialysis Centre is a part of the government’s broader strategy to improve nationwide healthcare infrastructure. Currently, healthcare development projects worth more than MVR 400 million are underway, aimed at decentralising medical services and bringing advanced treatment closer to island communities.
President Muizzu reiterated that reducing the need for Maldivians to travel abroad for basic and critical healthcare remains a key priority of his administration. The opening of the Hulhumalé Dialysis Centre is a testament to this vision, offering hope and improved quality of life for patients with chronic kidney conditions across the country.
