The first-ever Maldivian magazine centered on the country’s rich biodiversity has been officially launched.

At a ceremony held in Fuvahmulah City, where the magazine’s founder hails from, the biannual magazine was launched by the Managing Director of Pelagic Divers Fuvahmulah, Ahmed Inah.

Published in English language, the magazine aims to promote the natural and scenic beauty of the island nation along with its rich history, customs and traditions to a wider global audience.

Fuvahmulah-born Yasir Salih, the owner and presumably Managing Editor of the magazine has launched this as a solo venture. The contents of the magazine are categorized into three different sections: Biodiversity, Fisheries and History and Culture.

The cover page of the first issue of the magazine features a tiger shark; a friendly sighting in Fuvahmulah.

The primary highlight of the magazine is that this is the first-ever magazine to feature the work of a single individual, Yasir himself. He also founded and operates “Maldives My Islands”, a website dedicated on delivering information about the Maldives and its islands.

His articles feature scientific findings juxtaposed with real life experiences of the locals, as well as folktales, showcasing a rich historical insight into the islands.

While keeping the local appeal, and reader engagement with content provided in concisely written blocks, the magazine is poised to reach a wider global audience. The magazine will reportedly be distributed in the international market in countries like USA, UK, and India.
