Vietnam’s low-cost airline VietJet announces it will begin Maldives route flights between Ho Chi Minh and Male’ City.
The airline will reportedly run three weekly flights between the cities on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. VietJet will use its A320 aircraft for the operation.
The budget carrier will begin flight operations in December, amid the peak tourism season in the Maldives. Starting from December 5, VietJet will expand its Ho Chi Minh to Colombo route to Male’.
The Maldives traditionally observes a notable surge in tourist arrivals from October until February, which happens to coincide with the winter season or colder temperatures elsewhere in the world. While VietJet’s announcement to launch flights to the Maldives is expected to boost arrivals from the region, the market remains a modest one.
In 2025, tourist arrivals from Vietnam reached 2,813, which was a decline from the total arrivals in 2024, when they reached 2,916. By the end of August this year, Vietnam’s year-to-date arrivals stood at 2,003.
As part of celebrating the launch of this new flight route, VietJet has announced a special promotion as well. A three-day “Golden Sale” from October 8 to 10 will see potential travelers getting the opportunity to book their flights free of charge.
The airline is emerging as a popular low-cost carrier with frequent flights in the Asian region, and has been gaining a strong foothold across multiple destinations while adding new ones, with the Maldives being one of its most recent route inclusions.
