The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) collected MVR 172.81 million in departure tax in September, its latest figures show.
Departure tax and the airport development fee together brought in MVR 349 million last month. The state charges both on passengers leaving Maldivian airports.
Airport development fee contributed MVR 176 million, up 6.4 percent on the same month last year.
Overall, MIRA revenue in September reached MVR 2.58 billion, according to the authority’s monthly financial report. The total includes USD 126.81 million collected in US dollars.
Collections fell 10.7 percent from September 2025.
Two factors drove the drop: the resort lease extension fees plunged from MVR 508.44 million to MVR 5.76 million, and GST from general businesses also declined.
Despite the annual fall, MIRA revenue in September beat forecasts by 12.7 percent. The authority had projected MVR 2.29 billion.
Tax revenue rose to MVR 1.85 billion, up from MVR 1.73 billion a year earlier.
GST brought in MVR 1.25 billion, and TGST accounted for MVR 792.13 million of that.
Tourism land rent added MVR 424.23 million to MIRA revenue in September. Green tax contributed MVR 202.12 million.
