Maldives Gas announces reducing the refueling quantity of gas cylinders in light of import challenges.
The announcement, which came on Wednesday, said Maldives Gas will bring this change due to rising global gas prices and logistical difficulties. The change will take effect from Saturday, November 07 onwards.
Until the matter is resolved, Maldives Gas will continue refueling 7kg of gas into 10kg cylinders, and 14kg gas into 22kg cylinders. Additionally, the company will refill 31kg of gas into 45kg cylinders.
While the refilling quantities have been reduced, Maldives Gas affirms unit price of gas will remain unchanged. Customers will be charged based on actual weight of the gas filled under the currently established rate per kilogram.
Maldives Gas affirms this is a temporary change, and further said that the government is currently seeking bulk procurement and three-month storage supply of gas. Once these plans come into effect, Maldives Gas expects a permanent solution to the ongoing challenges.
Import of gas is facing difficulties due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Maldives Gas had already limited gas sales and reduced gas volumes for cylinders on March 15.
On June 17, the company bumped unit prices for 22kg and 45kg cylinders.
