The Maldives cabinet has decided to establish a Maldivian embassy in Turkey.
During a press conference held at the President’s Office on Sunday evening, December 10, the Under Secretary of Public Policy Mohamed Firzul said that the decision to open an embassy in Turkey is part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s discussions during his first official visit abroad to Turkey since his presidential inauguration.
Firzul added that the embassy would be opened in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
“In his decision to open an embassy in Turkey, [President Muizzu] has emphasized crucial factors. One of them is to further strengthen the longstanding political relations between Maldives and Turkey and take them to a new level,” Firzul said.
According to the President’s Office, the decision was made due to Maldives importing many essential daily goods and other items from Turkey and to encourage Turkish investment in the Maldives and export Maldivian goods.
