Maldivian, the national carrier of the Maldives is set to launch a new domestic flight under the South Connectivity Initiative.
Under this initiative, Maldivian will operate flights connecting Gan International Airport (GAN) in Addu atoll and Kooddoo Airport (GKK) in Huvadhoo atoll, twice weekly starting from October 29, 2024.
The South Connectivity is an initiative led by the Maldives government in collaboration with the national airline, Addu International Airport, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), and the Ministry of Tourism.
The aim of the initiative is to deliver enhanced tourism connectivity and commercial links, supporting the development of the Southern Zone.
Moreover, the initiative underscores Maldivian’s commitment to enhancing connectivity for both locals and tourists in the Maldives, marking a pivotal advancement in fostering a resilient tourism ecosystem.
The service between GAN and GKK facilitates a direct connection for arriving tourists to Gan International Airport via Sri Lankan Airlines, giving access to over 2,100 resort and guesthouses in Huvadhoo atoll.
The new route is also poised to support the import and export trade for local businesses in the Southern Zone.
Ticket bookings for the service is now available, effective April 04, 2024, through Maldivian’s sales channels that include the official website, mobile application, ticketing office and via sales agents.
The flights are set to operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The GKK-GAN route will depart at 11:55hrs and arrive at 12:35hrs, and the flight from GAN-GKK route will depart at 17:30hrs and arrive at 18:10hrs.
