The government expenditure in cumulative terms has reached MVR 386.1 million, reported the Ministry of Finance. Recurrent expenditure is at MVR295.6 million, and capital expenditure is at MVR90.5 million. Under recurrent expenditure, the state has already spent MVR292.2 million on administrative and operational expenses, and only MVR3.4 million on salaries, wages, and pensions of public sector employees. Tourist arrivals to the Maldives reached 59,071 by 11th January 2023, reports the Ministry of Tourism. The arrival count so far this year is 14.0% up from the same period in 2022. The Maldives recorded 51,816 arrivals for the same period in 2022 and 33,544 in 2021. The daily arrival average is currently at 5,370 and the average duration of stay is now 8.1 days. Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) confirms Velana International Airport (VIA) set a new air traffic movement record on Saturday, 07th January 2023. The previous highest air traffic movement was recorded on Monday, 02nd January 2023. According to MACL, VIA recorded 856 air traffic movements on Saturday which included 605 seaplane and 251 wheelbase movements. MACL recorded 102 international flight movements, 114 domestic flights, 35 general aviation, and 605 seaplane movements on Saturday. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has provided the latest update on two of its ongoing projects. According to the contractor, the harbor development project in GA. Dhaandhoo is well underway, with quay wall block installation, concrete works, and construction of the ramp already completed. The project scope includes 52,099 cubic meters of harbor dredging operations and 4,953 cubic meters of channel dredging operations. Structures include the construction of a 30 meters groyne, a 333 meters breakwater, 170 meters revetment, and a 529 meters quay wall. ADK Hospital has officially opened a Hyperbaric Treatment Unit, the first hospital in the Maldives to do so. The hospital’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Abdulla Niyaf introduced the services on Tuesday, 10th January, at a special ceremony held where the Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, the chief guest, officially inaugurated the unit. The Bank of Maldives (BML) has integrated Mastercard and Visa card payments for Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus routes in Male’, operated by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
