The Minister of Economic Development, Mohamed Saeed, in a post on X had congratulated the new appointment, Mariyam Shamma Ismail who succeeds outgoing Mariyam Visam. Maldivian, the national carrier of the island nation, has flown its widebody Airbus A-330 flights to Cochin and Trivandrum, India to cater to rising demands. Managing Director of Maldivian, Ibrahim Iyas said the airline observed significant demand for outbound travels on Sunday, due to which it roped in the A-330 for operations. The Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen on Wednesday said the government is geared up to launch commercial helicopter service in March 2025. The ministry made announcement for interest parties to submit proposals to provide commercial helicopter service earlier on August 5, 2024. Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday said the changes proposed to the Foreign Currency Bill will increase US Dollar circulation in the Maldives banking system beyond previous estimates. The foreign exchange regulation that took effect on October 1 requires tourist establishments to exchange a fixe amount of USD per tourist in local banks.
