State Trading Organization (STO) has reduced the prices of fuel for the third time in 2023. The largest state-owned enterprise (SOE) on Friday, December 8, announced the reduction of fuel prices effective on the date of the announcement. As such price of diesel has been reduced by MVR 0.45 and petrol by MVR 0.40 per liter. Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured that the individuals listed in the Gedhoruveriya and Binveriya housing schemes, which were implemented during the previous government, will receive their due land plots and housing flats. Tourist arrivals to the Maldives exceeds 1.7 million so far this year, the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 hit the island nation. As of December 06, the total tourist arrivals to the Maldives has been reported at exactly 1,713,679; which is a 12.8% annual increment from the same period last year. In 2022, for the same period, total arrivals stood at 1,518,965.
