    STELCO signs NDMA to improve crisis management framework and system

    STELCO signs agreement with NDMA towards improving the utility provider's crisis management system

    The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) entered into an agreement on Wednesday, towards improving the utility provider’s crisis management system.

    STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy and NDMA Chief Executive Hisan Hassan signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.

    As part of the agreement, NDMA will support STELCO with research and survey into the utility provider’s existing crisis management system, to identify the areas of weaknesses and provide feedback on how to improve the with robust solutions.

    NDMA will analyze the system and assist in preparing new policies towards STELCO’s standard of procedure in emergencies, including personnel conduct, evacuation procedures, and other relevant details in the case of a crisis.

    Under the agreement, STELCO will also appoint members to a Company Emergency Response Team, with its members trained by NDMA.

    NDMA will also conduct exercise drills to hone the skills of STELCO employees on emergency protocols, and conduct during crises.

    Speaking at the signing ceremony, NDMA Chief Executive Hisan Hassan said the agreement is an important cornerstone for the authority’s efforts related to crisis management.

    “The tole of the companies have been outlined in detail under the Crisis Management Act, and the areas of their assistance to NDMA during crises,” Hisan said, and highlighted STELCO’s areas of service were necessities for the public, which should be available uninterrupted even during crisis events.

    He emphasized on the importance of training STELCO personnel to ensure they are ready and capable of handling such situations.
