    Imports at MVR 4.4 bn, Exports at MVR 223 mn in Feb 2025

    Customs report total imports at MVR 4.4 billion, exports at MVR 223 million in Feb 2025

    The Maldives Customs Service has reported a total import of MVR 4.4 billion (inclusive of fuel) in February 2025.

    Excluding fuel imports, the total imports were valued at MVR 3.6 billion for the review month. Total exports in the month stood at MVR 223 million. The authority had generated a revenue of MVR 363 million from import duties and other options, and registered an MVR 45 million in royalties.

    Major Importing Categories

    1. Food items (excluding pork, alcohol and tobacco): MVR 968 million
    2. Fuel (marine gas oil (diesel), petrol and aviation gas): MVR 762 million
    3. Machinery and mechanical appliance; electrical: MVR 751 million
    4. Base metal and articles of base metal: MVR 329 million
    5. Products of the chemical or allied industries: MVR 252 million

    Major Exported Commodities

    1. Frozen skipjack tuna (stripe-bellied bonito) (katsuwonus pelamis): MVR 114 million
    2. Skipjack tuna (prepared or preserved): MVR 36 million
    3. Yellowfin tuna (frozen): MVR 32 million
    4. Flours, meals and pellets of fish, etc. (unfit for human consumption): MVR 6 million
    5. Yellowfin tuna loins (fresh or chilled): MVR 5 million

    Major Importing Countries

    • United Arab Emirates (UAE): MVR 1,342 million | 31%
    • India: MVR 748 million | 17%
    • China: MVR 606 million | 14%
    • Singapore: MVR 344 million | 8%
    • Sri Lanka: MVR 241 million | 5%

    Major Exporting Countries

    • Thailand: MVR 134 million | 60%
    • Great Britain: MVR 33 million | 15%
    • India: MVR 8 million | 4%
    • Vietnam: MVR 8 million | 4%
    • Bangladesh: MVR 6 million | 3%

    According to statistics, a total of 154 vessels arrived during February and 155 departed in the review month.
