    President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially appointed Aishath Asna Hamdi as the new Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), the central banking institution of the country.

    The appointment was made today under the authority granted to the President in accordance with Section 6(3) of the Maldives Monetary Authority Act 1981 (Act No. 6/81).

    Asna brings to the role over 17 years of experience in central banking and financial sector development. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Head of Financial Sector Development at the MMA, where she played a key role in shaping policy and advancing financial initiatives in the country.

    She holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, completed in 2014. Her academic background also includes a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) from the University of East London (2007), an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from the Association of Business Executives (UK) in 2005, as well as a Diploma and Certificate in Business Administration from the same association between 2001 and 2003.

    In 2023, Asna was honoured with the Technical Leadership Award in recognition of her significant contributions to the financial sector. She has also authored several academic papers focusing on financial sector development, further cementing her reputation as a leading expert in the field.

    Her appointment marks a new chapter for the MMA as the institution continues its mission to ensure monetary stability and foster economic development in the Maldives.
