Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has emphasized the importance of aligning the Maldives’ tourism industry with evolving global trends and technological advancements to retain its reputation as a world-leading travel destination.

His remarks came during the graduation ceremony of a tourism training programme hosted by Patina Maldives, Fari Islands resort, where a dozen students completed a three-year diploma-level course. The training, split between room service and food and beverage service, is accredited by the EHL Hospitality Business School in Switzerland.

Minister Thoriq praised the initiative by Patina Maldives, describing it as a key step in developing a more skilled and experienced local workforce in the tourism sector. He also highlighted the crucial role of young people in driving innovation and adapting to the fast-changing dynamics of the global tourism landscape.

“We must always learn new things and believe that we can always do better,” the Minister said. “This is the way to maintain our position as the most popular tourist destination. Maldives is renowned for the kind and complete hospitality of its people.”

He stressed that continuous learning and improvement are essential for the Maldives to sustain its competitive edge in international tourism, and encouraged youth to embrace change and lead the future of the industry.
