Geela Ali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Maldives to the European Union, has reiterated the country’s dedication to enhancing diplomatic engagement and expanding relations with the EU. This reaffirmation came following her presentation of letters of credence to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a formal ceremony held at the Berlaymont building, the European Commission’s headquarters in Brussels.
In a brief exchange after the ceremony, Ambassador Geela conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. She emphasized the Maldives’ interest in broadening diplomatic cooperation with the European Union and highlighted the government’s commitment to nurturing stronger bilateral ties.
President Ursula von der Leyen warmly welcomed Ambassador Geela’s appointment, extending congratulations and reaffirming the positive progress in Maldives-EU relations. The two have a longstanding partnership, working together on issues including trade, environmental sustainability, and global governance.
