    Maldives welcomes close to a million tourists already in 2025

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives up by 8.0% so far in 2025

    The Maldives has welcomed a little shy of one million tourists as of May 25, 2025, reports the Ministry of Tourism.

    According to the ministry’s statistics, Maldives has welcomed a total of 942,427 tourists as of the review date, which is an 8.0% increase compared to the same period last year. Total arrivals last year by the same date reached 872,228.

    Last year, the country welcomed a total of 2,046,615 tourists; marking it the highest annual arrival recorded for the country ever. This year, the government aims to surpass this figure.

    As for tourist arrivals from the top source markets, China maintains top rank with over 111,000 arrivals with Russia following closely behind with a little over 100,000 arrivals. The current administration, though reported to favor the Chinese market, has maintained its stance that its focus is on increasing tourist arrivals across all major markets and especially the emerging markets.

    4. Italy: 80,727
    5. Germany: 72,256
    6. India: 52,973
    7. France: 33,809
    8. USA: 29,665
    9. Switzerland: 21,687
    10. Australia: 17,148

    The Maldives tourism industry currently consists of 63,172 beds at operational capacity. The total tourist beds is composed of 43,313 beds from 175 operational tourist resorts, 2,310 beds from 16 hotels, 14,350 beds from 842 guesthouses, and another 3,199 beds from safari vessels.
