Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday appointed Ismail Naveen as the new Commissioner of the Maldives Police Service.

The official ceremony to present the insignia of office was held on Tuesday afternoon at the President’s Office.

Since joining the ranks of Maldives Police Service in 2006, Naveen held several key leadership roles, including the Head of the Corporate Services Director, Head of the People Directorate, Head of the Central Policing Command, Head of the Forensic Services Directorate, and most recently as the Deputy Commissioner of Police and as the acting in-charge of the police force following the exit of Ali Shujau as the commissioner back in April 2025.

Commissioner Naveen, appointed formally to the position on Tuesday, holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Northumbria, England.

Not long after his formal appointment, the new Commissioner affirmed that he will uphold the principles of the police service and carry out his responsibilities with integrity in a message he shared on social media.
