Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Sunday, June 15, announced that it has begun issuing notice to government-issued flats in Hulhumale’ with overdue rent.

According to the information obtained by Sun Online, a local media, only 3,219 flats have been making regular rent payments out of the 8,511 government-issued flats, placing the overdue rent at a staggering MVR 728 million.

Although HDC has the right of eviction of tenants from these properties owing to overdue rent, it said such measures have not been taken yet. Although no stringent steps are considered, HDC had responded to the local media stating that it has been sending a notice to the flats in question every three months, reminding them to pay their rent.
