Sunday, 25th July – Maldives observes steady increment in tourist markets and airlines operating to the island nation in 2021 in comparison with 2019.
Although it was reported that the total number of international and domestic arrivals had dwindled during the first-half of 2021 in comparison with 2019 by 45% and 63% respectively, there have been areas of improvement.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) in their latest statistical infographic confirmed that the total number of foreign destinations with flight operations to the island nation increased to 39 in 2021 from 35 in 2019, marking an 11% increment.
Meanwhile, Maldives had also observed an increment in the tourist-market countries which increased to 25 during the first-half of the current year from just 19 countries in 2019, boosting the area by 32%.
On the other hand, the total number of airlines operating to Maldives had observed a moderate improvement of 36 operational airlines to the island nation in 2021 from 34 airlines in 2019 – a modest 6% increase.
