    President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held a key meeting with Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Murshid, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), on Saturday at the President’s Office to explore avenues for enhanced collaboration in vital development sectors.

    Al-Murshid is visiting the Maldives as part of the 60th Independence Day celebrations and the inauguration of the new terminal at Velana International Airport. During the courtesy call, President Muizzu warmly welcomed the CEO and his delegation, expressing sincere gratitude for their presence at these landmark national events.

    The President commended the Saudi Fund for Development’s significant contributions, notably its support for the airport development project, which has been a cornerstone of the Maldives’ ongoing infrastructure advancement.

    In response, Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Murshid conveyed his pleasure in participating in both the Independence Day celebrations and the airport terminal inauguration. He noted the keen interest and close attention the Saudi Royal Court has given to the project’s progress.

    The leaders also engaged in discussions about expanding bilateral cooperation into other priority sectors such as housing, fisheries, and health, signalling a shared commitment to deepening development partnerships that will support sustainable growth in the Maldives.
