His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu welcomed His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), during a courtesy call held on Sunday afternoon at the President’s Office.

President Muizzu extended a warm welcome to Mr Al Suwaidi and his accompanying delegation, expressing his sincere appreciation for their visit to participate in the Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations and to attend the inauguration of the new terminal at Velana International Airport — a milestone development supported by ADFD.

Mr Al Suwaidi expressed his satisfaction with the successful completion of the airport project and noted the positive impact of such developments on the Maldives’ economic and tourism growth.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss expanding cooperation in key sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy, healthcare, and education. President Muizzu and Mr Al Suwaidi shared a mutual interest in further strengthening the longstanding ties between the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates.

Concluding the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to shared values and aspirations, and voiced optimism for continued collaboration and deepened bilateral relations in the years ahead.
