Tianjin, China – President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged the international community, including members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), to unite in advocating for justice, dignity, and peace for the people of Palestine. The call was made during his address at the “SCO Plus” Meeting held on Monday in Tianjin, China.
In his remarks, President Muizzu reflected on a milestone year for the Maldives, marking 60 years since gaining independence and joining the United Nations. He reaffirmed that the Maldives remains unwavering in its commitment to the principles of peace, dialogue, and diplomacy values the island nation has upheld since 1965.
Expressing deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine, the President reiterated the Maldives’ firm support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine. He emphasized that such a state must be based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
President Muizzu has consistently condemned Israel’s occupation and described its actions against Palestinians as inhumane and in clear violation of international law and fundamental human rights.
The President is currently on an official visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping to participate in the SCO Summit.
