State Trading Organization (STO) on Wednesday, February 25, announced a revision in the prices of onions and potatoes, effective from the date of announcement.
This price revision aims to reduce the cost of essential commodities during Ramadan, the Islamic holy month where Muslims all over the world observe fasting. STO also said this decision will enhance financial relief for consumers during this period when demand for such commodities increase.
STO further said the company was working to stabilize the prices of essential food items and ensure uninterrupted availability.
According to the new price revisions, onions will now be sold at MVR 10 per kilogram instead of MVR 12. Price of an onion sack has reduced from MVR 250 to MVR 190.
Potato prices has been adjusted as well, with a kilogram of it, previously sold at MVR 14, now sold at MVR 12. The price of a potato sack is now at MVR 160 instead of the previously sold price of MVR 300.
STO sells essential food supplies through its STO People’s Choice outlets. STO wholesale centers cater for those who wish to purchase in bulk quantities.
