Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has taken a decisive step toward transforming HA. Uligan into a world-class yachting destination, signing a development agreement with Sus E Construction Private Limited to build a modern yacht marina at one of the Maldives’ most frequented international entry points.
The two parties formalized the deal at MPL’s Head Office, with Deputy CEO Ali Hashim signing on behalf of MPL and Managing Director Abdulla Sawad representing Sus E Construction. The agreement marks the beginning of a phased development push that MPL sees as central to its broader economic strategy for the northern atoll.
Phase one sets on ambitious but focused scope. The new facility will accommodate 18 yachts simultaneously and deliver onsite Immigration and Customs services, a feature that directly addresses one of the most persistent friction points for international yacht crews navigating entry into the Maldives.
By embedding administrative services within the marina itself, MPL aims to significantly cut bureaucratic delays and sharpen Uligan’s appeal as a premier port of call.
MPL is also actively seeking an operational partner to manage and expand the marina’s service offerings beyond the initial phase, a move that signals the organization’s intent to attract private sector expertise and investment into the project’s long-term growth.
Uligan already draws consistent traffic from international yachts, giving the marina a ready customer base from day one. The current administration views the project as a key vehicle for deepening Uligan’s economic activity, broadening its service portfolio, and maximizing returns from its natural geographic advantage at the Maldives’ northern gateway.
