Five non-resident ambassadors presented their Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The newly appointed ambassadors met with the Maldivian head of the state for discussions focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation in areas including the blue economy, climate change, health, education, tourism, trade, youth development, sports, and regional pace and security.
Each ambassador presented their credentials during separate ceremonies held at the President’s Office.
The newly appointed ambassadors are from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Kosovo, Slovenia and Somalia.
The non-resident ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Maldives, Francisco Manuel Comprés Hernádez discussed areas of mutual interest, with a primary focus on environmental protection and blue economy: areas that are of equal importance to the country as well.
The Maldives established diplomatic ties with the Dominican Republic on March 17, 2010.
Cuba’s non-resident ambassador Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, discussed cooperation in health sector development, higher education, training programmes and sports.
Cuba and the Maldives established diplomatic relations on January 29, 1977.
Republic of Kosovo’s non-resident ambassador Lulzim Pllana discussed expanding cooperation in education, youth development, tourism, trade and other areas of mutual interest. The two countries established bilateral relations on April 15, 2009.
Tomaž Mencin, the non-resident ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia discussed cooperation in tourism, climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development. Slovenia and the Maldives established diplomatic relations on March 4, 1996.
The non-resident ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed Odowa, discussed expanding the bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest. The ambassador and President Muizzu exchanged views on promoting peace and security in the Indian Ocean.
Maldives and Somalia established diplomatic relations on March 10, 1988.
