The Ministry of Tourism of Maldives has confirmed that the lease of 18 islands in 10 different atolls for the purpose of resort development are available.
Moreover, the details of the islands on bid were revealed on Tuesday, 26th October, at the Maldives Investor Forum which was held as part of the ongoing Expo 2020 Dubai global event.
As per the ministry, the islands up for bid to develop tourist resorts are as follows:
- Haa Alif Medhufushi – 10.90 hectares
- Haa Alif Alidhuhfaru Finolhu – 3 hectares
- Haa Dhaal Kudafarufasgandu – 1.20 hectares
- Shaviyani Kudalhaimendhoo – 14.70 hectares
- Raa Ehthigili and 10 hectares from Alifushi Falhu – 20 hectares
- Meemu Seedheehuraa and Sheedheehuraa Veligandu – 4.28 hectares
- Meemu Maausfushi – 10.40 hectares
- Faafu En’bulufushi – 1.00 hectares
- Faafu Jinnathugau – 0.89 hectares
- Thaa Kaaddoo – 3.9 hectares
- Thaa Olhufushi and Olhufushi Finolhu – 3.54 hectares
- Laamu Kashidhoo – 3.1 hectares
- Laamu Bodumunyafushi – 3.0 hectares
- Laamu Dhonberehaa and Holharehaa – 4.44 hectares
- Gaaf Alif Maarehaa – 17 hectares
- Gaaf Alif Funadhooviligillaa – 5.0 hectares
- Gaaf Dhaal Kan’dahalagalaa – 7.4 hectares
- Gaaf Dhaal Fereytha Viligillaa, Dhekaan’baa, Koderataa and an additional neighboring island – 9.26 hectares
According to the ministry, 60% of the allocated points will be awarded to the highest bidder. In addition to this, points will be awarded based on the buyers’ priority on environmentally sound practices, renewable energy utilization and labor force training.
Moreover, investors will be able to bid for the islands on lease until the end of February 2022.
