Aeroflot expresses interest on recommencing its Maldivian operations

Aeroflot proposes to the Maldives government to open discussions to recommence the airline’s operations to the island nation.

Earlier, the Russian flagship carrier had interrupted its international operations except for Belarus amid the ongoing Russian invasion in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russia’s civil aviation authority had advised the airline to ground its international operations; specifically foreign-leased aircraft over fears of possible impounding.

The airline has revealed its interest in restarting operations to the island nation when it had confirmed recommencing operations to neighboring Sri Lanka. Aeroflot will reportedly start its operations to Lank sometime in April 2022.

Prior to the discontinuation of its flights to the Maldives, Aeroflot was carrying nearly 300 passengers or more every day to the island nation. The Russian halted their flights to the Maldives on 08th March 2022.

Meanwhile, Aeroflot has requested, via a written letter to the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority to hold discussions on the possibility of resuming operations once again.

However, it is yet uncertain whether Maldivian authorities have responded to the Russian airline’s requests, neither had the authority commented regarding the matter to local media.
