The initially planned pre-school building at Hulhumale’ Phase II will now be opened as a primary school premises.
The contractor of the project, SJ Construction is expected to complete the project by September 2022; the slated date for the new school’s opening. The new school is named after former Parliament Speaker and former Minister of Education Ahmed Kamil Didi.
While the academic year will commence on August 2022, the school is opening approximately a month after; the new academic institute will have grades from one to six.
Greater Male’ Region currently has just one school with primary grades exclusively; Izzuddeen School, while several former primary schools transitioned into multi-academic level schools.
Maldives government contracted SJ Construction for the project in March 2022, with the contract condition of a 165-day period to complete the project. Though the contract value was not announced officially, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) in an announcement made on February 11, claimed the project accrued MVR27 million.
