State Electric Company (STELCO) is reportedly in the plan to develop a new powerhouse outlet in Greater Male’ Region with a maximum output capacity of 100 MegaWatts.

The announcement comes from the utility provider’s Managing Director Mr. Ahmed Shareef, who appears to be on a productive roll since taking charge, during an interview with Public Service Media (PSM) on Tuesday evening, 19th July 2022.

The corporation is currently conducting preliminary assessment and technical works prior to the development of the powerhouse unit, which will be developed at the current empty plot lying next to the “Fifth Power Project” outlet in Hulhumale’ Phase I.

Initial plans by STELCO included development of an outlet with a maximum output capacity of 50 MegaWatts, which was scrapped off after technical experts and relevant authorities suggested increasing power output to 70 MegaWatts.

STELCO is assessing for optimum financial models, and noted that the proposal submission window for interested contractors will be opened soon – though an exact date has yet to be announced.

The utility provider expects to commence development of the outlet during the first quarter of 2023.
