Airbnb set to roll-out new 'anti-party' technology in the US and Canada

Airbnb is rolling out its new anti-party technology in the United States and Canada, which will obstruct users looking to book lodgings to throw unapproved gatherings.

The new tech will identify “potentially high-risk reservations” according to Airbnb. The company’s newest technology looks at several factors such as user history of positive reviews, history with the service, as well as duration of requested booking when screening for ‘trouble’.

Other factors including the distance for the booking from the user’s home address, and whether the bookings are made on weekends or otherwise.

Airbnb reports that is testing the said tech in Australia since 2021. The company reports a 35% drop in unauthorized parties in areas where the tech ‘pilot’ was in effect.

The technology’s latest update builds off the company’s “under-25” system, which blocks users under the age of 25. Users under 25 will be blocked from booking properties close to where they live until they achieve three positive reviews.
