A community library has been established in GDh. Fiyoaree through Bank of Maldives (BML) Community Fund. Fiyoaree Association for Community Empowerment (FACE) carried the project.
According to the project’s spearheading party, FACE comments the aim for the initiative is to ‘motivate island residents’ to engage in reading and spending quality time outdoors with family. The community library is established as part of the children’s park on the island.
Commenting on the initiative, the Vice President of FACE, Suruhan Mohamed said;
“We have not had an outdoor space dedicated for families on the island. Our hope is that this space will not only be useful but will make a real difference to our community. Children coming to the park can now read outside and spend quality time with their families.”
The national bank has acted as a financial support for more than 60 similar community-based projects across the Maldives, through its Community Fund initiative.
