    Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) launches the country’s first-ever premium glass-bottled water, dubbed the ‘ARO’ Premium.

    Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Ms. Aishath Nahula launched the premium bottled water series at a special ceremony held in CROSSROADS Maldives. The new glass bottles are part of the company’s efforts to reduce disposable plastics.

    Moreover, the initiative ties to the larger initiative of Maldives government’s efforts of reducing single-use plastics and its adverse contribution to the environment. ‘ARO’ which means “fresh” is marketed to the tourists exclusively, while MWSC Managing Director Mr. Hassan Shah confirms future plans to introduce the product to local consumers.

    Marketed as ‘Maldives in a Bottle’, each series will represent one distinct feature of the tropical island nation. The first series is symbolic of the country’s pristine qualities.

    “This is a very important step to promote the beauty of Maldives to tourists and to create awareness to protect and maintain the natural environment in a sustainable manner,” Mr. Shah said. The new premium glass-bottled series are set up as viable competition for foreign alternatives.

    Furthermore, MWSC confirms three distinguishable qualities of ‘ARO’ that sets it apart from its contemporaries, which include;

    • Glass bottles help Maldives move away from single-use plastics
    • The bottle is a visible symbolization and representation of the Maldives, aimed at promoting the destination to tourists
    • The bottles were designed by local artists, and represent authentic Maldivian work
