Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer affirms development project of the new Velana International Airport (VIA) passenger terminal will be completed in 2023.
The minister made the confirmation to one of the local broadcasters.
The new passenger terminal project comes under the airport’s expansion initiative, aiming to increase passenger movement to the country’s main air gateway. Minister Ameer notes this project will enhance the country’s economy holistically, hinting on scope for more job opportunities.
VIA is among the busiest airports in the South Asian region. More than 20 international airlines operate to the venue regularly.
The new passenger terminal development project was earlier contracted to Saudi Binladin Group, back in 2016.
The new structure measures 78,000 square-meters, and will reportedly accommodate 1.5 million passengers in annual terms.
