ADK Hospital has officially opened a Hyperbaric Treatment Unit, the first hospital in the Maldives to do so.

The hospital’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Abdulla Niyaf introduced the services on Tuesday, 10th January, at a special ceremony held where the Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, the chief guest, officially inaugurated the unit.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), or decompression treatment is a specialized treatment using a combination of elevated ambient pressure and concentrated oxygen. It is used to heal burns, decompression sickness, and non-healing wounds among others.

The minister highlighted the importance of having a decompression chamber in a healthcare facility in the country since Maldives is known for a dive-centric destination, famous for its safety standard prioritization.

The minister also added that the presence of a deco-chamber in the capital comes as relief for the tourism industry amid rising demands.

ADK Hospital earlier provided specific training for three of its doctors from Singapore to become familiar with operating deco-chambers. The hospital also trained nurses and support staff as well.
