Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) confirms Velana International Airport (VIA) set a new air traffic movement record on Saturday, 07th January 2023.
The previous highest air traffic movement was recorded on Monday, 02nd January 2023.
According to MACL, VIA recorded 856 air traffic movements on Saturday which included 605 seaplane and 251 wheelbase movements.
MACL recorded 102 international flight movements, 114 domestic flights, 35 general aviation, and 605 seaplane movements on Saturday.
The air traffic movement increased due to subsequent increase in seaplane movements. MACL further claimed seaplane movements were on rise due to the increase in tourism facilities in the Maldives.
