Sonee Fishing’s “KANDUFOARI” fishing race kicks off on Saturday, 18th February 2023 with a total of 106 participants from across the Maldives.

A total of five sports fishing vessels embarked at 06:00hrs. The race should be completed before 18:00hrs of the same day. While individual participants are required to report to the finishing line at 18:00hrs, teams are granted an extra hour and should report back to the finish line at 19:00hrs.

Each vessel will have an official onboard to monitor progress and record the catch. The officials will also monitor if the participants adhere to the regulations of the competition and avoid breaching fishing regulations.

Specific points will be allocated for catching specific types of fish and catch-and-release fish categories as well.

The fishing competition was launched as part of the virtual fishing application developed by Sonee Fishing and in partnership with Unix Sports. The application will be officially unveiled on Saturday evening, 20:00hrs at Usfasgandu.

Participants of the tournament can upload their catches to the application to gain points.

The tournament was launched with prize money for winners. Winners of the Sports Fishing category will receive MVR15,000 cash prize with an additional MVR10,000 worth gift voucher.

The hand-line category winners will receive MVR10,000 cash prize with an additional MVR5,000 worth gift voucher.
