State Electric Company (STELCO) has said it will be introducing a new organizational position in its company hierarchy for better operations management.

STELCO is set to introduce Technical Heads in all of its stations, the utility provider’s Managing Director Ahmed Shareef said. According to Shareef, each of STELCO’s stations have a technically certified supervisor who will be responsible to ensure the stations meet all the technical requirements. The supervisors will also be responsible in seeking timely solutions to any technical malfunctions or setbacks.

Apart from stationing technical heads, STELCO is also geared to provide capacity development for the managers of the stations. STELCO will reportedly ensure all its stations have certified station managers.

The decisions were revealed by Shareef during the signing ceremony between STELCO and Maldives Polytechnic to initiate personnel development training for the utility provider’s employees. The program will ensure participating employees of STELCO become certified in their relevant areas.

Completion of the program will grant an MQA-approved Level III certificate to employees.

Shareef further said that the vision for the initiative is to provide opportunity to obtain basic certification to employees who previously did not have the qualification. He also affirmed confidence in reaching this target.

STELCO currently employs nearly 729 technicians.
