The Maldives government on Sunday contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for new developmental projects on four islands.

According to the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure, MTCC was awarded the harbor expansion projects in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi and N. Kendhikulhudhoo and the shore protection projects in K. Himmafushi and AA. Mathiveri.

The project awarding ceremony was held at the ministry. The ministry’s Director General Fathimath Shaana Farooq signed on behalf of the state and the CEO of MTCC Adam Azim signed on behalf of the contractor.

Kulhudhuffushi expansion project involves the extension of the existing seven jetties by four meters each. The project cost is MVR 13 million and has to be completed in 8 months. Kendhikulhudhoo harbor project involves dredging and excavation operations on the existing harbor channel and installation of groynes. The project is valued at MVR 79 million and should be completed in one year and three months.

The shore protection projects in Himmafushi and Mathiveri have almost similar project scopes. A 160-meter revetment will be constructed on the south end of Himmafushi whereas a 54-meter revetment will be constructed on the west end of Mathiveri. The former project costs MVR 11.8 million while the latter costs MVR 24.8 million.

Himmafushi shore protection project should be completed in 6 months while Mathiveri project should conclude in 8 months.

MTCC already carries out several infrastructural development projects across the Maldives.
