The test flight of Maldives’ national carrier; Maldivian landed sometime on Monday late afternoon at Faresmaathoda Airport, according to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The Minister of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam accompanied by an entourage of senior officials traveled on board the test flight. The General Manager of MTCC Ramzy Aboobakuru received the minister and his delegation at the airport.

Earlier, Maldivian announced that the test flight will land at the airport around 17:00hrs on Monday late afternoon.

The airport is scheduled for the official opening on Wednesday, 15th March while the first commercial flight is expected to land in the airport on Thursday, 16th March.

Maldivian will operate two weekly flights to Faresmaathoda Airport.

The airline has set a special fare of MVR1,574 for a one-way trip for the flights scheduled on Wednesday and Sunday next week.

MTCC was the contractor of the airport and installed a 1,200-meter runway. The project was awarded in November 2020 for a cost of MVR 145 million with a completion period of one year and eight months.

The project faced delays owing to the procurement of equipment and material required for the development, said MTCC.
