MTCC facilitates card payment options on RTL public transportation services

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has introduced card payment options for the Raajje-Transport Link (RTL) national integrated public transportation network.

MTCC already shifted the ferry transportation in Greater Male’ region under the RTL travel platform. With this move, ferry transportations previously carried by MTCC outside of the integrated network in Vilimale’, Hulhumale’, Thilafushi, and Gulhifalhu will now come under the larger RTL network.

Tickets for the ferry service in Greater Male’ region will now be available from the RTL travel app and website.

Customers can now purchase QR tickets from the mobile app and website and from the ticket counters from Greater Male’ region ferry terminals.

MTCC said customers can purchase the tickets using contactless Visa credit and debit cards and Mastercard. Customers can tap on the validators placed in ferry terminals to pay for the tickets.

The company further said the travel cards issued to customers right now will remain effective until December 30, and the last top-up date for the cards will be December 1.

The QR tickets purchased from the RTL app can be used exclusively for the route for which it was purchased.

Besides facilitating card payments for ferries, MTCC has enabled contactless Visa and Mastercard payments for RTL buses as well.

The company said that the new payment option was extended to RTL bus services in Addu, Fuvahmulah, and Kulhudhuffushi cities as well as HA. Dhidhdhoo, L. Gan, Funadhoo, and Isdhoo.

The RTL general bus service is provided through two approaches, the “fixed fare” route and the “distance fare” route. The price under the “fixed fare” route remains the same for the entire journey, while in the “distance fare” the prices are determined based on the distance of the trip.
