A total of 10 hectares of land from Fushidhiggaru Falhu has been reclaimed within a week’s time.

RasMale’ eco-city project is the most ambitious urbanization initiative of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The island is developed by reclaiming Fushidhiggaru Falhu located south of Male’ City. The project commenced on Monday, last week.

While the reclamation works of the first phase are underway, the contractor has successfully reclaimed 10 hectares of land since commencement.

Sri Lanka’s Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company (CMCC) was contracted for the reclamation efforts, and is expected to complete its task in eight months.

Under the RasMale’ mega development initiative, the government aims to reclaim 1,153 hectares of land for the island from the lagoon.

This is also the largest reclamation project in the Maldives, with the final reclaimed island expected to be three times larger than Hulhumale’ (Phase 1 and 2 combined).

Additionally, the project has been awarded to CMCC without incurring any expenditure of the state or Urbanco. An accord was struck between the state and the contractor on providing 10 hectares of land from Hulhumale’ and 60 hectares from RasMale’ to CMCC.

CMCC is using the dredger “Filippo Brunelleschi” for the reclamation project. The dredger was brought to the Maldives by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in July 2023.

The vessel measures 142.5 meters in length and 27.5 meters in width, with a hopper capacity with a loading capacity of 11,300 cubic meters.
