Housing Development Corporation (HDC), on Thursday, January 18, 2024, has reverted to using its original title on ‘effective immediate’ capacity.

HDC reinstated the original name as its corporate identity with the “aim of connecting with” its roots. In its post on X, HDC said that under its original title once again, it would strive to “create diverse initiatives” to benefit the community.

“As master developers of smart and safe cities, we are dedicated to improving our community through ongoing work on community projects aimed at fostering a sense of belonging,” said HDC on X.

In April 2023, HDC was officially rebranded to Urbanco. An initiative that incurred a total of MVR 1.8 million, spent towards the complete makeover of the corporation, inclusive of design and aesthetic changes to the company’s logo, digital presence and even the official apparels of its employees.

As part of its rebranding efforts, the company spent MVR 353,008 to replace its tents, display banner, and stands and another MVR 279,000 on replacing the company’s stationaries, and water mugs reflecting the ‘Urbanco’ branding.

During an earlier campaign meeting, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who at the time was contesting against former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, said that the company’s rebranding had violated legal procedures.
