    Customs revenue down 9%, imports & exports drops

    Customs revenue declines 9%, imports and exports drop as well in December 2023

    According to the most recent update from the Maldives Customs Service, revenues dropped 9% in December 2023 registering a total of MVR 332 million.

    The total imports for the month saw a 9% decline and registered a total of MVR 5.1 billion including fuel imports, while the total imports excluding fuel also observed a 9% drop and registered a total of MVR 4.1 billion.

    Exports saw a 14% drop, and registered a total of MVR 240 million worth commodities exported in the review month.

    Major Import Categories

    1. Machinery & mechanical appliance; electrical – MVR 1.07 billion
    2. Food items (exclud. pork, alcohol, tobacco) – MVR 983 million
    3. Fuel (marine gas oil (diesel), petrol, aviation gas) – MVR 973 million
    4. Base metal and articles of base metal – MVR 311 million
    5. Products of chemical or allied industrial – MVR 252 million

    Major Import Countries

    1. China – MVR 782 million
    2. Oman – MVR 768 million
    3. Singapore – MVR 731 million
    4. India – MVR 683 million
    5. UAE – MVR 591 million

    Major Export Commodities

    1. Skipjack tuna; stripe-bellied bonito (frozen) – MVR 127 million
    2. Skipjack tuna (prepared or preserved) – MVR 38 million
    3. Yellowfin tuna (frozen) – MVR 31 million
    4. Yellowfin tuna (canned, prepared & preserved) – MVR 18 million
    5. Yellowfin tuna chunk (fresh or chilled) – MVR 7 million

    Major Export Countries

    1. Thailand – MVR 166 million
    2. Great Britain – MVR 21 million
    3. Germany – MVR 17 million
    4. Switzerland – MVR 7 million
    5. France – MVR 6 million
