The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) on Saturday, has requested the public members to submit complaints on the recently issued bills, which has attracted significant public ire over its hiked up charges.

Several members of the public have been complaining over the significant hike in the utility bills, issued for May. Many have inquired the reason for this rise in charges – especially since the during the month of May, Maldives experienced rainy and cloudy weather.

Following widespread public criticism, STELCO on Saturday implored the public to submit complaints by contacting the billing number of their Customer Service at 7788438 (available on WhatsApp and Telegram).

Additionally, customers may wish to lodge complaints via mail at [email protected] as well.

STELCO assures to reply within a maximum of 25 hours from the time of receipt of complaint.

Previously, STELCO had announced it spent MVR 61.7 million to provide discounts for the bills issued in March and April – which coincided with the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, a time where household usage of electricity generally goes up.
