Seniors of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) met with a foreign consultancy firm to seek expert guidance. MPL said on Monday, April 15, 2024, that its senior officials met with the international consultancy firm to seek technical expertise towards the development of Hithadhoo port. The port authority confirmed participation of MPL Chief Executive Officer and Hithadhoo Port’s Managing Director Mohamed Wajeeh as well.

The Maldives government has contracted China’s Dongfeng Electric International Corporation to develop fish processing factories in three strategic locations in the Maldives. The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Sunday with the Chinese corporation, which is aimed at addressing the constraints in weighing and processing fish. Minister of Fisheries Ahmed Shiyam said the factories will be developed in Lhaviyani atoll Felivaru, Dhaalu atoll Maadheli, and Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Fiyoari. Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) and Maldivian Aero has collaborated to resume international flight operation between the Maldives and India. Both RACL and Maldivian confirmed on X the resumption of the national carrier’s flights between Hanimaadhoo International Airport and Trivandrum. The service aims to improve connectivity between the Maldives and India, enhancing easier travel options for both Maldivians and Indians. “This service connects two magnificent destinations, fostering seamless travel experiences between Maldives and India,” Maldivian said.
The Maldives government has contracted China’s CAMC Engineering for the development of an integrated maritime hub in Laamu atoll. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday, between Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) CEO Mohamed Wajeeh and CAMC Engineering’s General Manager Lee Wei Wei. Subsequently, the contract for the development of the maritime hub was signed between the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and Wei Wei. SME Development Finance Corporation (SDFC) has announced a waiver on the Covid-19 business aid loan’s interest. The decision follows Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s earlier promise for the same. According to SDFC, in the week immediately after the Eid holidays, it would share the changes brought to the loans of customers regarding the interest exemption. The Maldives government on Thursday, April 11, 2024, announced the preliminary works to launch the projects to install ice plants in 11 islands have concluded, and is now up for commencement. According to the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, the government will be installing new ice plants in the following islands; HA. Dhidhdhoo, HA. Ihavandhoo, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi City, Sh. Funadhoo, Sh. Komandoo, Lh. Naifaru, AA. Rasdhoo, Dh. Bandidhoo, Dh. Meedhoo, and GDh. Rathafandhoo. The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has engaged in a productive meeting with the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar to explore collaborative efforts in tourism promotion.
