The year-to-date total of state expenditure reached MVR 30.8 billion as of September 07, reported the Ministry of Finance. According to the ministry’s most recent statistics as of the review date, the cumulative total of state revenues remain sluggish compared to the stronger expenditure gains. Maldivian Airlines and Emirates Airlines announced establishing an interline partnership enabling Emirates customers to access 16 popular Maldivian holiday destinations. The agreement successfully follows on from 2022’s signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two carriers to explore mutual cooperation opportunities. Under the partnership, Emirates customers will have more options when traveling to the Maldives, and helps the customers to utilize both carriers’ services and networks on a single ticket. Tourist arrivals to the Maldives in annual terms have reached over 1.28 million as of September 13, reports the Ministry of Tourism. According to the ministry’s statistics, tourist arrivals in annual terms reached 1,282,031 as of the review date, which is a 13.8% increment compared to the corresponding period in 2022. In the same period last year, tourist arrivals to the Maldives stood at a year-to-date total of 1,126,462. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a financing package of USD50.5 million to expand renewably energy development in the Maldives. ADB said the package consists of USD41.5 million from the Asian Development Fund (ADF), a USD8.5 million concessional loan from ordinary capital resources and a USD500,000 grant from the Climate Change Fund. The Maldives’ first hologram room opens at Four Seasons Resort Landaa Giraavaru, offering a magical “underwater” manta experience. The unique hologram program would emulate manta rays and other marine life seen in the surrounding waters of Baa Atoll UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve to provide a virtual experience for the occupants of the room.
