Baa atoll Goidhoo Island Council approved the lease of 275,000 square feet land for tourism development. The council’s announcement stated that the land will be leased for the development of two types of tourist properties, which include; Guesthouse development: 05 plots between 5,000 to 10,000 square feet Villa/Service Residences: 200,000 square feet plot The council said bid books for the project will be available from Sunday, August 20 to Monday, August 28 between 09:00hrs and 12:00hrs. Maldives government has awarded the land reclamation work for L. Kadhdhoo Airport project to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for MVR 390 million. A ceremony held at the Ministry of Economic Development, the agreement was signed by the ministry’s Director Fathimath Shaana on behalf of the government, and MTCC Managing Director Adam Azim signed on behalf of the contractor. The project scope involves land reclamation of the airport island, with a completion period of 10 months. Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) has granted the Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization (CAMO) approval to BEOND, the world’s first premium leisure airline. Maldives President Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has affirmed the Raajje-Transport Link (RTL) integrated national ferry network services will commence in Noonu atoll before 2023 end. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) led RTL service sees the residential islands in administrative atolls connected via sea transportation. MTCC uses high-speed ferries for the transportation. Before Noonu atoll, RTL services were launched in upper-northern atolls of Haa Alif and Haa Dhaalu followed by Shaviyani atoll in north. Maldives government has secured a loan of USD54.9 million (MVR844 million) from a foreign private investor for budget support. Though the Ministry of Finance said that the state will be acquiring the loan from a private party, it did not disclose details of the investor. The government had earlier secured a loan of USD34 million (MVR520 million) from International Development Association (IDA) in June 2023.
