President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a major initiative to introduce passport and identification card services for Maldivians residing in Malaysia. The announcement came during an interview with PSM News on Sunday morning, ahead of his official visit to the country. The visit aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and directly address the needs of Maldivian citizens living abroad.
In the interview, President Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting Maldivians overseas. He shared plans for formal discussions with Malaysian leaders focused on resolving challenges faced by the Maldivian community and ensuring government-backed solutions.
“Official meetings with the leaders there will take place during this trip,” President Muizzu said. “We are hopeful that the bond between our two nations will grow even stronger.”
Among the key developments, the President revealed plans to establish passport and ID card processing services in Malaysia — a move set to significantly ease access to essential services for Maldivians living abroad.
Beyond citizen services, the president’s visit will also highlight investment opportunities in the Maldives. President Muizzu noted that Malaysian investors would be presented with detailed insights into key sectors, showcasing the Maldives as an attractive destination for international investment.
Joining President Muizzu is a delegation of cabinet ministers and senior officials. The visit’s agenda includes the signing of memorandums of understanding to boost cooperation in vital sectors and the formal exchange of official notes with Malaysian counterparts.
