    Maldives Customs Revenue Surges to USD26.3 Mil in June Amid Import Spike

    Government revenue from import and export duties reached USD 26.3 million in June, driven by a sharp month-over-month increase in trade volume, according to official figures released by the Maldives Customs Service (MCS).

    The monthly collection reflects a 25.8% increase in customs duty revenue compared to the USD 20.9 million generated in May.

    Import Growth and Top Trading Partners

    Total imports for June expanded to USD 434.5 million, up 21.8% from USD 356.7 million in the previous month.

    Oman emerged as the Maldives’ top import origin during the month, accounting for USD 103.8 million in goods. India was the second-largest supplier at USD 97.4 million, following by China with USD 59.8 million in shipments.

    Import Breakdowns by Sector

    • Energy and Household Essentials: Combined imports of fuel and household-related products led overall category demand at USD 116.7 million.
    • Food Supply: Food imports totaled USD 110.2 million, remaining a primary baseline driver of total import value.
    • Capital Goods: Machinery and mechanical equipment imports were valued at USD 63.0 million.

    Export Trade Performance

    Maldivian exports totaled USD 9.9 million for the month.

    Thailand retained its position as the primary export destination for Maldivian goods, purchasing USD 6.2 million, accounting for more than 62% of total outward shipments. The United Kingdom ranked second, importing USD 1.5 million, while India represented the third-largest destination at USD 389,000.
