Saudi Arabia’s budget carrier, Flynas has relaunched their scheduled flights to the Maldives once more.
The airline’s first flight touched down at Velana International Airport (VIA), the country’s primary air gateway on Saturday, June 19, marking the restart of a key Middle East corridor.
The resumption comes not long after tensions in the Middle East, on perpetual escalation following US and Israel-led attacks on Iran began earlier in 2026, has dissipated after the US and Iran signed a deal aimed at ending the conflict.
While the two events appear to have no connection, it would still suggest that the US-Iran agreed peace deal have encouraged Middle Eastern airlines to look towards resuming halted operations.
Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) confirmed the new schedule. Flynas will operate three flights per week between King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and VIA. MACL described the relaunch as a significant opportunity to strengthen air connectivity between both countries.
The occasion drew a formal welcome at the VIA. The airport staff greeted the inbound aircraft with a water salute. Passengers arriving from Riyadh experienced traditional Maldivian Boduberu performances on the ground. MACL also distributed commemorative gifts to both arriving and departing passengers.
Flynas resumes Maldives operations at a strategically important moment. Saudi Arabia ranks among the Maldives’ key tourism source markets. MACL expects the reinstated route to generate stronger travel demand from the wider Middle East region.
The airport operator pointed to broader ambitions beyond this single route. MACL is actively working to bring more international airlines into VIA. The company stated that expanding airline partnerships remains central to its mission of advancing the Maldivian aviation sector and raising passenger service standards.
